So Long to Summer 5K/10K & Family Fun Trek with RNK Running & Walking

Ready or not, it’s time to say So Long to Summer! Grab your sneakers and sunblock and get ready to hit the trail! Saturday, August 11th, the tenth annual So Long to Summer 5K, 10K and Family Fun Trek gets underway at Salisbury Park.

Included in the Parks & Recreation Run Series, the So Long to Summer event is a professionally timed race (for the 5 and 10K events.) All registered racers will receive a race tech shirt, a chance to win prizes and the coveted, post-race pancake breakfast from Flippin’ Flapjacks. Overall male/female finishers will be awarded in the following age groups: 12 and under, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60+. Times will be started at “gun time,” meaning everyone’s race will start together, so if you are looking to place in the event, plan to start near the front at the start. Following the race, the free Kids’ Dash (for children under 8 years old) will commence. No registration is necessary for this portion of the days’ events. The Kids’ Dash is expected to start at approximately 9:15am (once the majority of the 5K and 10K participants have finished.)

The 1.3 mile, USA Track & Field course begins at Salisbury Park (11920 Motsenbocker Road) with the 10K starting at 8am, the 5K at 8:05am, and the Family Fun Trek at 8:15am.
Parking, water station locations and more about the 1.3 mile course can be found online at http://parkerrec.com/928/So-Long-to-Summer-5K10K-Family-Fun-Trek. The 5K and 10K courses consist of both pavement and trail running, primarily out and back, with a large portion being on the Cherry Creek Trail. The Family Fun Trek is almost entirely dirt trails.

Packet pick up will be available at RNK Running and Walking (13019 S. Parker Rd.) on Thursday and Friday prior to the event between 11am-7pm or you can pick up your packet on race day beginning at 7am. Be advised that the event is held, rain or shine and no refunds will be issued. Strollers and leashed dogs are welcome, but strollers and four legged friends need to stay to the right side of the trail at all times.
